Water Treatment Training Certificate Programme in the Sustainable Development Goals

Clean water is an essential part of our daily lives. Having clean water is important to help us achieve many other Sustainable Development Goals, like Goal 4, 5, 9, 11, 14. When we have access to clean water, we are healthier to live an active life and to learn, to discover, to do things we suppose to understand, to know and to deliver. But many people around the world still don’t have access to clean water and ways to deal safely with human waste.



Event objectives

In this course the participants will learn the basic concept of water pollution and waste water treatment processes and facilities. Practice on the professional water analysis and treatment equipments. And help the students to achieve the goals of the 2030 agenda in the near future.


Learning objectives


At the end of the course, participants will be able to :

  • Understand the history of SDGs and its importance for the sustainable development of the mankind.

  • Understand the importance of why all the people should access to clean water.

  • Understand why it’s getting more and more difficult for people to access clean water and what caused the pollution of the water resources.

  • Learn how to sampling, measuring, and analysis the waste water with professional equipment.

  • Learn the water treatment technique with laboratory level equipment.


Content and structure


The course consists of the following session and modules:

Session 1: Lectures

    • Module 1: SDGs concepts

    • Module 2: Access to clean water in sustainably developing world

    • Module 3: Preparation of laboratory work

Session 2: Hands-on Practice

    • Module 4: Wastewater sampling and analytical work in laboratory

    • Module 5: Measurement and monitoring

    • Module 6: Usage and maintenance of pump system;

    • Module 7: VR simulation (the sewage treatment plant insight)


Methodology


The learning activities consists of lecture session and hands-on session to help participants to understand the SDGs concepts and basic water treatment technique.


The lecture will be provided by the experts from CIFAL Hubei and Tongji University and the hands-on session will be taking place in the water treatment laboratory, the College of Environmental Science and Technology, Tongji University.


As the course aims to develop the knowledge of SDGs and skills of water treatment, emphasis will be placed on the final presentations that will be combined with assignments from lecture session and experimental report from hands-on session. A final debate will be conducted to measure the level of pre- and post-course knowledge and skills level.



Target audience

The course is intended for all the young people who are eager to understand SDGs’ concept and interested in learning basic technology and skills in water treatment.(Above Age 14)

The grade will be decided by the experts council from CIFAL Hubei and Tongji University based on the final debate combine with the performance from the participants through the training course.   A certificate will be award to the participants with grade A distinguished.
